2003 marked the 40th anniversary of the North Perth Fire Services Monkton Station. In the late 1950s, the Monkton Lions Club felt there was a need for more coverage in Elma and Logan Townships and decided to put a fire station in Monkton.
Up until that point, this area had be covered by Listowel and Mitchell. The Monkton station officially opened on January 1963 with 21 volunteer firemen. A used truck was purchased and equipped by the Lions club for $3000 and a new fire hall was built in the town of Monkton.
Since 1963 there has only been 3 Chiefs at the Monkton station. Serving for 33 years was Chief Elmer Pehlke, followed by North Perth Chief Ed Smith, and currently Charlie Smith.
